From a child's first day in day care to their Standard VII exams, everything at Bensal is taught in English, by qualified teachers, following the Tanzanian national curriculum.

Day Care

Our day care takes children from the age of two. For many of them it is their first time away from home, so the focus is on helping them feel safe and settled.

The day is built around play, songs, stories and simple routines. Children start hearing and using English naturally, long before any formal lessons begin.

Pre-Primary

Pre-primary prepares children for Standard I. They learn letters and sounds, begin reading and writing, work with numbers, and get plenty of practice speaking and listening in English.

By the time they move up, children are used to the classroom, comfortable with their teachers, and ready for primary school work.

Primary School

Our primary school follows the Tanzanian national curriculum, with English as the language of teaching. Kiswahili is taught as a full subject, and our pupils do very well in both languages.

Pupils sit two national exams with us: the Standard Four National Assessment (SFNA) and the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) at the end of Standard VII. We also use regional and external mock exams through the year so pupils are well practised before the real thing.

Subjects examined at PSLE

These are the six subjects our Standard VII pupils sit in the national exam.

Our approach

What makes the difference

English every day

Children hear, speak, read and write English all day, every day. It becomes second nature.

Degree-holding teachers

95% of our teaching staff hold a university degree.

Regular practice exams

Mock exams through the year show us where each pupil needs more help, well before the national exams.
